Belmont race 8 – #1 Guard the Empire – this filly has won two straight races in impressive fashion for under-rated connections with rather unspectacular speed figures. In her last race, when the gate opened she took one step and fell right on her face. She gathered herself after winning previous race on the lead, circled the field around the turn and held on for victory. For any horse to win after that is a special feat. She has a solid breeze for this race, and had one horse to beat to light up the tote.
